GMT vs GMT+2

Beitrag von sandviper »

Hi community
A while ago, Big E. required the change of the recently introduced GMT into GMT +2 UTC. That's done now. But the English Pinboard now indicates the local time too. Our English speaking friends might become confused though.

Nonono...we got GMT +1 in this board - and with the last changes we lost the "24 hours". I fixed this last night. So now we got the european time format: 06.09.2002...!

Netzi, currently we are 2 hours ahead of GMT due to summertime that lasts until end of October. GB is also ahead of 1 hour compared to GMT. If GMT is 12 a.m., London has 1 p.m. and Buschtaxi Forum 2 p.m. Am I wrong (at least my GPS indicates now 11:11:20 being 02:00 hours ahead of UTC)?
No worries, Roland

We are still GMT+1 - daylight saving has nothing to do with timezone...

In Australia, the east coast had 1 timezone, but 3 different times at certain times in the year! :-) (we now only have 2)

In this case it has: GMT is equal to UTC, none of which is affected by the time of the year. In the UK during winter GMT is used while during summer BST (British Summer Time) is used. Central Europe uses CET, which is GMT+1, but in summer it is GMT+2 and also called CET DST (Central European Time Daylight Saving Time).  UT (as opposed to UTC) is defined on the basis of the rotation of the planet, which is not constant. Have a look, e.g., at http://www.hermit.org/Eclipse/when_time.shtml

All the best,
Thomas
