Travel in Germany with HZJ78 - Umwelt-plakette

Dear Buschtaxi-friends,

First of all, please excuse me for posting in English. I understand German, but I'm not able to write it.

I have a question on "umwelt-plakette".
End of August we want to go to Germany to visit Bodensee, Neuschwanstein, Königssee and Berchtesgaden.
We're don't like riding highways, so we would take secundary roads.
Our Troopy is an Africa version and has no Euro norm on the registration papers.
How does this work with the "umwelt zones" ?
Can we do the trip or are we not allowed to drive the Troopy in Germany ?

Edit: Where are you from? The following may restricts to cars registered in the EU.

the german "Umwelt-Plakete" is only needed in some citys, and propably all of them need the green Euro4 badge or above, which your troopy may not fulfill in any way.
But still you can legaly drive your car around gemany, highway or secundary roads, until there is a sign which declares an "Umwelt-Zone". Then you have to park and get on some public transportation if you would like to visit the center.

i drove my austrian registered non euro troopy into frankfurt and noone cared

Normal police nomrlay does not mind you, and only if you park somewhere the Ordnungsamt may give you a ticket over 80€
