Finally I had my spare tires interact with a weight scale; all
weights including Volvo C3-series rim:
- Goodyear Suregrip 280/85x16 4PR good thread = 42.5kg
- Goodyear Suregrip 280/85x16 6PR bald as a slaphead[*] = 42.5kg
(so 6PR is indeed a tad heavier than 4PR, but not more than the
maximum difference in wear, very unlike the claim that exists for the
'Suregrip clone' Silverstone MT117 (6PR vs 10PR, 25kg vs 45kg, tire
only))
- Trelleborg Cross Country 280/85x16 LR-113 = 52.5kg
Interesting reference, on Land Cruiser 16x5.5" split rim:
- Michelin XZY 7.50x16 = 42.5kg
[*] with a baffling row of center lugs that stick out nearly the full
thread depth, but only at one tip....like a jig-saw (or 'punk-head',
to stay in context....

)
(the darn thing doesn't even want to roll straight out, if you give
it a swing....it's a miracle how anyone could have driven it, during
it's last few thousand km's....it's by far the worst worn tire I have
seen in my life....

)
(I now start wondering what the typical wear pattern is if only one
rear tire of a 6x6 goes flat, unnoticed, for several hundreds of
kilometers....)
(no, not me, these were all spares bought separately....

)
Anyway, a good thing to know if you want the vehicle to stay below
3500kg, and must have it officially weighted during the import-
procedure....a not-insignificant 60kg difference on a 6x6....

)
(or 70kg if you must have the spare present as well (not in Holland))
PS: anyone in Europe know where to find surplus/near-new Goodyear
Suregrip 6PR?
(perhaps even the 11.00x16 Suregrip that came on previous generations
of Volvo military trucks?)
