Hi all
I just picked up my 05' landcruiser and I want to add a back up camera, which I thought came standard. My dealership told me that there was no OEM offering although I think that the Lexus GX470 and the Japan-spec models have them. Does anybody know whether European Toyota dealers can retrofit these things onto our cars?
I read through matt's exceptional guide to add a second camera source to the LCD screen. Despite my poor german I understood that we need a RGB/Compsite adaptor (where to buy?). CarTFT.com offers a switch connected to the rear gear which would also be used.
Could anybody shed some light on this, and where can I find the connectors explained in Matts webpage?
Thanks in advance
and sorry for it being english, you guys seem to be the best experts on the web

Hello and welcome Max!
The backup camera only comes with the 100 series LandCruiser. I still assume one could retrofit this camera to the j12, but I have not tried it myself. And since the dealers can not do it, there may be some problems I am not aware of.
You only need a RGB/Composite - Adapter if you want to use a color camera. A Black/White-Interface is much easier.
The connectors are standard toyota spare parts, so by installing a camera interface, you do not need to cut any wires.
What kind of switch were you looking at on the carTFT-Page?
One more question: Is the navigation DVD still under the front passenger seat in the 2005 model?
(This is were I feed in the video signal.)

Thanks for your reply.
The adaptor you use, that uses a manual switch right? how many sources can you switch from?
Where can I purchase the color adaptor? and how much does it cost?
The switch from carTFT is the one that switches the source when you shift into R. http://www.cartft.com/carpc/catalog/il/395
I think the satnav is still under the passenger seat

Hi max,
the switch described in your link is for composite only. It will not work with the RGB-Signals of your navigation system.
My custom made video switch has two b&w inputs (a third input wired to the BKUP-Signal can be integrated, too). Please check my updated information in this thread:

Just remember: This is not an off-the-shelf component, but I can build a few kits to custom order, if there is enough demand.

I would be definitely interested. I understand it would cost 190euros for parts if manufactured in small quantities.
Is it not possible to produce one (for a higher price) if no one else is interested?

hi max,
sorry, this is really no place to discuss prices.
Btw. I sent you PM yesterday. Did you read that?
